Old Biscuit Mill

<< back to Cape Town Travel Guide

The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock is home to the city’s top vintage fair and fresh food market, which runs every Saturday from 9am to 2pm. Locally known as the Neighbourgoods Market, it’s renowned for its delectable selection of organic foods, as well as its array of vintage goods, artworks, books and interesting knickknacks.

Set in the historic district of Woodstock, the grounds of the disused biscuit mill are ideal for this eclectic market. You’ll not only find the finest-quality produce, but also antique furniture shops, cosy cafes and a fantastic bead shop. It’s recommended that you get there early – you’ll need plenty of time to take it all in!

What’s on offer at the Old Biscuit Mill
Arguably, the Neighbourgoods Market’s distinguishing attraction is its enormous selection of gourmet food and wine. In fact, the market is unofficially recognised as Cape Town’s original gourmet market. You’ll find fine food purveyors, selections of cheeses, breads, chocolates, wines, fresh products and seasonal foods, and a variety of imported meats. You’ll also be able to purchase plants and fresh herbs.

While you’re there, be sure to sample some of the culinary treats on offer: Lamb and tuna burgers, quiches, curries, biltong and more. Quench your thirst with home-made smoothies, or satisfy your sweet tooth with a brightly-coloured cupcake or decadent pastry.

There are plenty of large communal tables where shoppers can enjoy their treats, unwrap their new purchases, or just enjoy a bit of people-watching!

Getting to the Old Biscuit Mill
The Old Biscuit Mill is just a short drive from the city centre, conveniently located on Albert Road in Woodstock. If you’re staying in the CBD, it’s about a 10-minute drive to the market.

Book hotel accommodation in Cape Town’s city centre, and you’ll be ideally positioned to enjoy some of the Mother City’s best hidden gems.
