Rovos Rail offers a unique South African experience with north and southbound routes between Pretoria and Cape Town as well as a range of spectacular journeys on one of the world’s most luxurious trains.

The trains themselves combine the golden age of rail travel with modern conveniences to create an unforgettable travel experience. Guests aboard Rovos Rail can expect the extravagant elegance of a bygone era on beautifully rebuilt trains.

Rovos Rail was started in 1989 by Rohan Vos and it is still family owned. The original train, the Pride of Africa, has been named as being one of the World’s Top 25 Trains by the Society of International Railway Travellers. Today, Rovos’ trains consist of restored South African coaches with two lounges, two restaurant cars and private sleeping compartments – each with private en-suite facilities.

The air-conditioned suites aboard the train are the epitome of luxury, decorated in handsome wood panelling and period Edwardian features and come in three distinct varieties – Royal, Deluxe and Pullman – with varying levels of luxury and comfort.

Dining aboard Rovos Rail includes local delicacies such as game with an emphasis placed on fresh and seasonal ingredients. An enthusiastic team of chefs specialising traditional meals serve dishes in a single sitting amidst a Victorian scene resplendent with fine china, crisp linen and shining silver, complemented by a selection of excellent South African wines.

The luxury train holiday routes can be as short as 48 hours, or as long as nine days or more providing the perfect opportunity to see South Africa and beyond.

Taj Cape Town provides luxury accommodation in central Cape Town and along with Rovos Rail has created an opportunity for patrons to win two nights in a luxurious one bedroom suite at Taj Cape Town and a two-night journey aboard Rovos Rail with a special promotion.

One Response to “Rovos Rail”

  1. I do like Rovos Rail, it has to be one of the most luxurious trains in the world, with on board facilities that put other trains to shame. It also helps that it travels through some of the most stunning scenery in the world
