Cape Town is a city of great natural heritage. Arguably one of the most spectacular destinations and indeed the top destination in the world according to the 2011 Traveller’s Choice Awards, Cape Town’s unique environment is its greatest and most fragile asset.
For many years there has been a growing green consciousness in the Mother City out of which green projects are rapidly emerging. The awarding of Blue Flag status to a number of Cape Town beaches for being not only spectacularly beautiful, but also safe, clean and environmentally well-managed is the result of this ecological awareness.
Part of the Green Map movement, a community of over 4,000 green sites around the world, the Cape Town Green Map is an online map for finding locations of green sites and initiatives in and around Cape Town.
The interactive map allows locals and tourists alike to quickly find biodiversity hot spots, green spaces, sustainable living projects, alternative energy sites, recycling projects and drop-offs, local green events, markets, eateries, responsible tourism, green accommodation, eco products and services, green attractions, alternative energy sites and more.
The map itself is divided into three colour coded sections: Sustainable Living, Nature, and Culture and Society. The colour coded map icons quickly give an idea of what kind of initiatives are in your area with further information provided when clicking on them.
A brief over view of the Company Gardens opposite the Taj Cape Town at a glance informs visitors that the area is a pedestrian-friendly garden-park and recreational area with flora indigenous to the region and an important cultural site. This may be old news to locals, but invaluable to the first time visitor looking to experience both natural beauty and cultural significance while on a morning walk.
The Taj Cape Town provides luxury accommodation in Cape Town and is opposite the Company Gardens as well as being close to many other Cape Town attractions.
